The awards night for the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards was held last Saturday at the Esplanade in Pasay City, Metro Manila. Hundreds of nominees were trimmed down to be included as finalist in the 36 categories. The winners were selected by a panel of judges who came from different fields especially in the new media industry.

The Philippine Blog Awards was launched last year purposely to recognize outstanding blogs with distinctive contents in various fortes owned by Filipinos. For its second year, they have included blogs written by mainstream media practitioners, network blogs written by Filipinos and blogs used by local corporations as efficient communication tools. Congratulations to all the winners!

The idea of having a day to honor all the fathers in the world started in Spokane, Washington. The idea came from Sonora Smart Dodd while she was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon back in 1909. Since her mother died, her father, William Jackson Smart took all the responsibilities of raising her. Because of this, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he is to her. The first Father’s Day Celebration was held on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington in honor of Sonora’s father whose birthday falls on the month of June.
